Origin and meaning of the word philosophy

The word comes from Greek , and is composed of φίλος ("edges" , love) and σοφία ("sofia", wisdom): φιλοσοφία ( love of wisdom).

For the first philosophers of ancient Greece the wisdom was under a search genuine knowledge, and overcoming false perceptions. The actual practice of philosophy started taking significance as a critical intellectual activity, aimed at reflecting on the natural causes that explain the various phenomena that occur in reality replaces the myths , a myth over to logos (the reasoning ) of occult or supernatural explanations - often attributed to the whim of the gods - to the rational explanations where causes can be observed or inferred logical, objective, neutral and methodically into reality itself.

There are still other ways to define philosophy, such as "the study of the most fundamental concepts and principles involved in thought, action and reality." And it can be seen as an exercise of free thought , critical irrationalities liberating - as myths, fallacies or absurd - and enlightening.
